Book of Fables: Chapter 95 – Silver Glitterati

Book of Fables - Silver Glitterati

Finally a brand new chapter! I told you these were going to be a little harder to film, but I’m determined :D My last couple of chapters haven’t been the most wearable of looks so I wanted to go back to doing something that people could actually wear out. Probably not to the office, but more likely to a club or an extravagant dinner out.

A smokey eye with silver glitter is a pretty universal look that can be worn by virtually all skin types :) So I hope you enjoy the look! My hair is some serious fail :( You can still some of my unevenly smeared gel :x I never said I was a hair expert :P

Either way I hope you enjoy the look :)

Book of Fables: Revisited Chapter 28 – Dark Dreams

Book of Fables - Halloween

About a year ago, before I started my youtube channel the Book of Fables existed only as photos on the blog. As a result there are many looks that have never made it into video format, so today I decided to change that and start to revisit some of my favourite chapters and re-produce them as video makeup tutorials. Admittedly an ulterior motive was to bring to life the emotion and feelings I felt whilst creating these looks. There is only so much a photo can say, but with a video and music, I feel like I can express myself so much more accurately.

Sorry for the strange quality of my voice over. I recorded it whilst travelling and since I didn’t have a mic, I had to use my camera. I’ll make sure to bring a mic with me next time and find a better area of my hotel room to record sound :)

Hope you enjoy the video!

For more information on how this look came to be, feel free to read the original chapter.

Book of Fables: Chapter 94 – Broken Doll

Book of Fables - Broken Doll

Broken Doll, I shot this look with Surfaced Studio and my good friend Neil Creek :) If you like you can check out the rest of the photos here, Neil is an amazing photographer as you well know! You’ll notice how many of the photos look like they were shot at night, but check out the behind the scene photos at the end of this post and you can clearly see it wasn’t night time at all! :D

I was shooting for a really abandoned sad look. Like I was someone’s doll that they just tossed aside because I’m broken and forgotten. Not surprisingly the toughest part of this look was getting the costume ready in time, I had about one full day on a weekend to sew the dress, hence why it’s not exactly the most fitted perfect dress. But when you’re low on time, you take what you can get! :) At least it was very soft and comfy :D I’d love to do a re-take of this one day and make it even more elaborate.

I really enjoy the posing for this! I literally just had to lay there and be as still as possible, next time I think I need to also try and hold my breath since every time I watch this video fast I can see my chest going up and down but everything else is still hehe. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks again to Neil and Surfaced Studio for all their help :D

Book of Fables: Chapter 93 – Art of Easter

Book of Fables - Art of Easter

Easter is almost here!! I’ve been planning for an Easter video for the longest time now, but I couldn’t for the life of me come up with a look or concept that fit. That is until Sefie mentioned chickens and eggs… and the idea pretty much snowballed from there.

This was the first time I’ve ever done stop motion, and even then my method is kinda half-assed, I only did maybe 4 photos per second when I probably should have done 12-24 :/ Well let me know what you think of the video! If you liked some of the new features I introduced then I’ll make sure to put in more effort for them next time :D

I need to give a big shout out to Violet for being the talented artist behind the two watercoloured images you see in the video. She pain stakingly drew them photo by photo as I snapped and moved little Pierre around to give the impression it was he who was drawing each photo :) Thanks so much Violet! :)

Book of Fables: Chapter 92 – Road to Somewhere

Book of Fables - Road to Somewhere

Last video from my Inverloch stash :) And probably one of the most challenging to film as I did half of it in the car whilst I was being driven down to Inverloch! I somehow forgot the fact that I get motion sickness very easily and so after I finished my eye shadow I literally just closed my eyes and did my best not to throw up till we parked in a near by town X-x; Oh what a glamourous life I lead :P

I really love the area we found to shoot the intro and outro :) It was perfect, so surreal and even better in person :) I made sure not to capture the house just behind me as this was “technical” private property (oh yeah that’s me! Total rebel :P ), but it was a really amazing house. Almost completely made out of glass in the middle of this gorgeous field~~~ So pretty! :)

Book of Fables: Chapter 91 – Sea Breeze

Book of Fables - Sea Breeze

Inspiration comes in so many forms, most of the time the ideas for my videos comes during my daily commute to and from work. But sometimes, it can be random. I saw a look very similar to this on an ad as I was watching youtube videos. I just knew I wanted to give it a go, I hadn’t worked with these colours before and it seemed to suit the beach so well :)

All I’ve done is reproduce the look, certainly did not create it but I hope you like it either way :) Ever since I got my rhinestones, I’m having a ball trying to come up with new looks to use them for :D

Book of Fables: Chapter 90 – A Midnight Walk

March 9th, 2012 § 4 comments § permalink

Book of Fables - A Midnight Walk

Ah, it has been a tough week I have to admit. I never realised what a tight ship I run at home, and constantly take for granted the luxury of being at home most nights to work through Fables related work. It’s only recently I’ve started realising that working of Fables easily takes up close to 40 hrs of my life, which equivalents to a second full time job. You’d be surprise how much work there is behind the scenes X_x; So when a couple social events pop up or you end up having to take work home from your day job, it really has a massive impact.

BUT enough whinging, let’s talk about today’s look. I filmed the entire intro and outro for this outside at around… 9pm – 10pm at night? My only light source was the moon and a single street lamp, so to help illuminate my face I was holding a silver reflector under me the whole time. Ahh… the joys of hacky videography :) You know you love it~

I really enjoyed putting this simplistic look together, I definitely want to aim to do more full faced makeup looks, they have the most amazing impact and are such a joy to pull together. A true transformation :) Hope you enjoy!
