I’ll be the first to admit, I have a bit of a makeup collection. Okay I lie, it’s pretty appalling how much there is. I try my best to maintain the size by donating / throwing out products I don’t plan to use anymore. I try and be more selective with my purchases, I often turn down companies trying to send me products. But as my role as the beauty blogger, reviewing the latest and newest products is just part of the job description.

One way to reduce the physical size of your collection is to depot some of your palettes. I’ve been doing this excessively lately with a ton of my collection, here is a shot of my “main” palette. It contains a bunch of neutral shades from Benefit and Bourjois, and it makes it very easy for me when I’m in a rush to just grab my Unii Palette and everything I need is already here! Shadows, blush and I use the darkest brown as a liner.
As a result, I’ve been able to clear out a lot more space and in effect “reduce the size” of my collection without having to actually throw out anything more
I’m obsessed with finding ways to optimise my space, learning about new storage methods etc, so if you have any other tips I would love to hear them

So I’ve got an idea, and I need you guys to help me! I need you guys to send me questions about anything and everything you can think of. I’d like to do a question and answers video some time this year (or maybe at the start of next year), so what I need is to know what sort of questions have you always wanted to ask me, but never got around to doing it. I can’t promise I’ll use every question given to me, obviously if you’re asking something super personal or much too specific I probably won’t be able to use it, but if you could, please send me a question one would typically be asked in say… an interview (not a job interview!!)
If you can’t think of any questions, that’s totally fine~ But any help would be highly appreciated
And don’t worry I won’t be naming names in my video, I just need a bit of inspiration
Thank you and have a lovely weekend!

Bleh, YouTube is being a pain and my video upload has already failed twice now
Unfortunately since I work during the day I don’t really have the capacity to try again and upload. So when I get home tonight I will try again and hope it works, so you can definitely expect this week’s Book of Fables to be coming soon, just slightly delayed
Figured I’d take the chance to ramble on a bit on what’s going on lately, kinda like a diary. I used to blog personal entries all the time on Live Journal, but haven’t had that sort of luxury in the last few years.

This weekend is going to be a fun one for sure, will be attending the Chadstone store opening for Armani Exchange, it starts at 12pm so if you’re in the area I implore you to come and have a look. Apparently Anthony Callea will be there as well (Australian Idol runner up), not that I follow him or anything, but to me it certainly sounds like a big exciting event!
Seems exciting~ (more importantly what do I wear? How should I do my make up, my hair? I know… first world issues!)

The next day I’ll be attending Armageddon, it’s kinda like Melbourne’s version of Comic Con. I’ll be cosplaying Xiao Qiao with my friend Asham, likely entering the competition against my better judgement, but we shall see! I totally qualify for the Novice / Newbie category too!
Anyways, again if you’re keen, do come by and see if you can find the girl with the giant fans
I love meeting new cosplayers!
Trust me; my weekends are not always so exciting. They are mostly me attempting to clean my room (it never happens), explore Azeroth, wasting time on YouTube or running errands…
Let me know what your weekend plans are like!
I think the occasional personal / ramble post is nice sometimes.

If you’re a beauty addict like me, then we’ve all been there. Hanging out with either friends, family, co-workers etc and you notice another person who has done their makeup either all wrong, or are clearly missing an obviously step in their makeup routine.
For me this has happened many times, the most common mistake I’ve found are people who don’t prime their eyes before applying eye shadows, and so it’s crease-ville when I see them.
And time and time again I experience the same dilemma, should I point it out? Or should I ignore it and let them walk through life with creased eye shadow….

The perfectionist in me is so desperate to point it out, more because I suspect many of these people are relatively new or not that…..immersed into makeup as I am (aka crazy makeup addict) , and so perhaps haven’t even heard of eye primer before.
On the other hand, do I want to turn into the snide arrogant girl who points out mistakes on other people? For all I know, perhaps people are loving the creased eye shadow look?? Who knows! (I’ve seen worse!)
Am I alone? What have you done when in the same situation? I’d love to hear what other people think.
Personally? I keep my mouth shut, my thoughts to myself (and the people who read my blog), smile and carry on. Hey! Despite what you may think, makeup isn’t the be all and end all….
*cough*

The nature of my work means I’m never in one place for very long, I haven’t had an actual desk for my entire full time working life and I’m only situated in one location for more than a few weeks or months at a time, maybe even shorter.
Most of the time this is just moving around within the same city to different locations, though lately there seems to be a bit of a change in the air with the need to go interstate and potentially overseas. I had a bit of a spurt of travel lately and thought I’d share my ideas behind packing fast and packing light. Often when I’m required to relocate, I’m given at most a few days notice.
So here are some of my tips
- Simplify, especially if you’re only going for a few days, ditch the eye creams and stick with one day time moisturiser with SPF and one night time moisturiser.
- Try to get makeup wipes that work as a cleanser / exfoliator / toner, they work amazingly well at cleaning makeup brushes too!
- Be realistic about what makeup you need, on a good day I’ll only use at most a couple of eye shadows, 1 liner, 1 mascara, 1 blush and maybe a tinted moisturiser / BB cream.
- Limit the product numbers by only allowing yourself one makeup / skin care bag, if it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t go with you.
- Learn to use your fingers to apply makeup, I had to apply all my makeup using just my fingers once for a photo shoot with The Age because I stupidly forgot my brushes, but it turned out well in the end and I learnt to apply my makeup much faster! Just make sure your hands are clean!
Or better yet, don’t bring any makeup!
Like me below, makeup free and a tad camera shy lol. Hope you found my tips useful, would love to hear your tips if you have any

Using products for other uses other than its intended purpose is something I am terribly guilty of in terms of makeup. For example, sometimes for a look I want blue lips, why should I fork over another $20 for a blue lipstick I’ll only use once? Why not just say… use some blue eye shadow, mix it in with a bit of Vaseline and voilà! Blue lipstick!
But there is a pretty good reason not to do this; some products that are meant to be used around the eyes only, are not safe for consumption. If you end up using them on your lips and you accidentally digest some of it, you could end up rather ill.
Similarity, products designed to be used on the lips (commonly red pigments) are not safe to be used around the eyes as they are more likely to cause irritation. E.g avoid using lipstick as a cream eye shadow.

However, from what I can see, using lipsticks on the cheeks is perfectly fine, it’s usually the eyes vs. mouth products which can cause a problem.
So if you want to be 100% safe, I’d stick to using products for their intended purpose. (in this case do as I say, not as I do!!)
