Book of Fables: Revisited Chapter 53 – Shidou Hikaru

February 16th, 2013 § 7 comments § permalink

Shidou Hikaru - Fables in Fashion

Shidou Hikaru’s manga warrior costume has been one of my most complex and rewarding costumes I’ve ever made. Its been a costume I’ve had my sights on for many years now and in 2010 I decided to make it.

There are so many reasons I love this costume, both from a construction point of view (took five weekends to make the sword, many thanks to Toby for helping), but the fact that two of my great friends Sefie and Annie cosplayed both Fuu and Umi with me, and that it was featured on the front cover of the Melbourne MX newspaper! So many great memories :)

Photos are by ofcourse Neil Creek <3

Hope you enjoy the video :D

Just a little FYI, that my vision sucks! So I actually wear glasses or clear contacts, but most of the time when I’m filming I don’t wear anything in case makeup gets stuck to my contacts X_x; But yeah, it’s a very blurry experience to try and film without any real vision rofl.

Diamond in the Rough

My New Years Eve makeup tutorial for 2012, except it’s not really a new look. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, then you’ll know this is actually Chapter 55 made a little while back called Diamond in the Rough. You can check out the original chapter here.

This look is all about the glitter, spilling glitter down your face. It’s the kind of look inspired by makeup ads, that seem just a bit too over the top :) If you’re looking for a more wearable New Years Eve makeup look, then I highly recommend you check out my no-glitter look from last year.

Book of Fables: Chapter 99 – Luxury of Silk

Luxury of Silk

I remember always wanting to do a look like this for ages, this feeling of floating silk has always been an idea since attending a friend’s engagement party that was held out at the beach (they’ve been married for 2 years now so clearly I’ve had this idea for AGES!)

I’m a sucker for smooth slow motion, always hunting for a camera that can go even slower! I loved this winged look, especially when viewed at an angle from the side :) I hope you enjoy it, took me two previous attempts to make sure I was able to draw the wings evenly :)

Also a massive thanks to Jimmy America, a close friend and amazing photographer :) 3 out of the 4 photos used in this post were by him, you must check out his gallery to see the rest of the photos~ His photos were the inspiration behind how the video was edited :) High fashion luxury!

Chapter 41 – Frozen

I created my first ever Youtube video almost 2 years ago, it was essentially a slideshow deck of my a “Winter / Frozen” look I did for a competition Klaire was holding, a fantastic YouTuber you all already know I love and adore! You can view the original video here.

After a few requests I finally got around to creating a tutorial for that very same look :)

It was basically a look I put together to simulate the illusion of being frozen over, obviously not completely accurate but you see what I was trying to achieve here :) I hope you enjoy the look and have an amazing weekend :D

Enchanted

Finally! A spring time inspired makeup tutorial, yes apparently we are in Spring right now (in Australia!) and I’ve had this particular look in my sketch book for a while now. I actually had a completely different feel for it. I wanted something much more sombre and graceful, but after shooting with Neil, the photos came across so vibrant, dreamy and cheerful, as did my video! And so we have this look~

I still want to do something similar with a bit more melancholy to it, so look out for that sometime soon ish :) The weather is kinda perfect for it :D

My final chapter for Halloween 2012! And yes, a day late my apologises! This is based on a previous chapter I did last year, which was at the time called Ventriloquist Dummy, rather than Doll. But I think I prefer the Doll term instead.

You’ll notice that the look is quite a bit different to how it was originally, but I guess that’s what happens with time :)

Hope you enjoy the look and have a fantastic Halloween! Do you guys have any plans? I’m planning to dress us as a mouse at a friend’s Halloween party lol For a cosplayer, original I know ;)

Book of Fables: Revisited Chapter 49 – Day of the Dead

Day of the Dead

Día de los Muertos, try saying that really fast without knowing a single word of Spanish! At least that’s my excuse in case my pronunciation sounded way off :)

This chapter is an old one I did some time last year, heavily influenced by the beautiful sugar skull paintings by Sylvia Ji.

I’m making an effort to go back and re-create some of my older Book of Fable chapters, and with Halloween just around the corner this seemed perfect :) Apologises for the late upload, I tend to always upload my videos on Thursday night and blog post goes out on Fridays. Work and general life are making sticking to a schedule a little more challenging, but I’m determined to get there eventually! Thank you so much for your patience.

You’ll notice the look has changed a little since my last post on it, I think that’s pretty inevitable as your skills improve (hopefully!). Hope you enjoy the look :D

Special thanks to Neil Creek for taking some amazing photos of this look :D Please check out Neil Creek’s Photo Albums on Facebook or Smugmug.

Book of Fables: Chapter 97 – Zombie

Halloween Zombie

This has been a long time coming, the last time I filmed something this intense was my Doppelganger video. Since then I always knew I wanted to do more videos like that, but honestly when you work full time, spare time is just not something you have :(

Never the less, since then both Surfaced Studio and I were lucky enough to find support in the very talented duo that is Violet and Jimmy (or as I call them VJ which always makes them giggle). Together we spent 6 grueling hours in a cold car park and filmed a Halloween video :)

Most of the day I was uncomfortable, I couldn’t see properly and was constantly cold and hungry (two things I couldn’t satisfy with all that makeup on), but still it was one of the most rewarding and fun experiences I’ve had! And I know between the four of us we already have a ton more ideas planned for the future :D

Halloween Zombie

Jimmy has the patience of a saint I swear, he pretty much filmed the entire video for us, played Victim #1 and did the captain voice over. He also took all the photos you see of this shoot~ This man + camera = gold!

Violet took all the behind the scenes footage which I’ll link as soon as she uploads it~ She also helped a lot with camera work and lighting, and was my delicious Victim #2 :9

Toby of course played the role of the Zombie Hunter and did all the post processing work, plus music and sound effects. Seriously, I know this sounds biased, but this guy is absolutely amazing.

As for lil ol me, I played the part of the hungry Zombie, did all the makeup and manage to scrap together a makeup tutorial for you all~

If this video represents anything, that would be teamwork!

If you want to see all the photo, check out Jimmy’s Gallery!
