Inspired by an advertisement board for Napoleon Perdis I found at my local Chemist :) The colours were so vibrant, it instantly reminded me of the Rosella painting I have hanging in my study room.

I’m pretty fond of the drama behind this look, if I had a wig I think it would be a pretty convincing transformation! Which is exactly what I love about cosplay and makeup :) And we all know I’m a sucker for strong pigmentation~ Want vibrant colours for your eye shadows? Use a wet brush, it seriously works!

Lookbook #15 – Winter Pixie

Finally, bring on the wigs! As a cosplayer, I think last I counted I have about 25+ wigs in storage? But due to my taste in costumes, they all seem to be the same short blue colour :/ So I dug a little deeper and pulled out this cute number. It instantly reminded me of pixies, and as I’ve been meaning to do a Winter look for ages, what better combination? I kinda wish I attempted something with my eyebrows… they look a little out of place being so black.

Let me just say, two days after shooting this look I still find glitter randomly on me @_@ And yet when I look at these photos, I can’t help but think, NEEDS MOAR SPARKLE!

Lookbook #14 – Subtle Vampire

Fine I’ll admit it, I caught a little bit of the Vampire fever too! Though I haven’t gone to see Eclipse or any of the Twilight movies in the cinemas, I’ve watched downloads from friends, does that count? Either way, I’ve always love the regal polished look of Vampires in almost any movie, whether it be Underworld, Van Helsing, Dracula etc. Plus, I’m a girl who loves love porcelain pale skin (I’m one of the few people I know who detests tanning), and that’s pretty much all there is to this look!

It’s nothing dramatic, just very simple and more an overall “feeling” than anything. I tried my best to stain my lips, instead of paint them. Attempting to get a “blood soaked” tint, not 100% happy with how that turned out, probably would have been better off using a lip stain instead (and being less neat?), and I had to end up lightening my eyes digitally :( Even tho my eyes are kinda light for an asian, they aren’t this light! Hopefully some new contacts will change that tho :)

Lookbook #13 – Glitter Candy

So I bought these little nail stickers whilst I was in Japan earlier this year. Whilst I am a total nail polish addict, I don’t do fake nails. This is mostly since I’m a pianist, I need short neat nails at all times. But it was too cute not to buy, and a few months later I bought myself a small collection of nails to paint and this was the result! I love love the way these look, so girly! But I was pretty much an inelegant mess as I tried to set up my camera and later on remove my makeup. (Surprised I didn’t end up taking out my own eye)

Whilst I’m on the topic of inelegant messes, glitter how I love/hate you. I think this is just an area of makeup I’ll need to keep working on. A fine balance between the amount of glitter vs the amount of adhesive, plus method of application. Ah yes, a fine art indeed.

Lookbook #8 – Gothic Aristocrat

I’m a fan of colour, and I love seeing colour used in atypical scenarios. So when I discovered this deliciously black lipstick, I knew I had to do a Lookbook entry with it! (And perhaps a photoshoot?) Black lipstick is so often associated with goth or grunge culture, so I tried to throw a different spin on it. And honestly I can see black lipstick being worn in normal social situations, I think it all comes down to how one would dress everything else up to compliment it.

I wish the orange would have shown up more, despite putting stacks of it on, in some photos you can see just barely see it :( At least now I know what pigment colour I need to purchase on my next makeup order! I think I really should have used some false lashes for this look too~

Review: Coastal Scents 88 Metal Mania Palette

May 18th, 2010 § 2 Comments

Coastal Scents 88 Metal Mania Palette

This won’t be your standard review, rather an overview ;) This is the palette used for my Lookbook #5 entry. Having a bit of a collectors personality, since I already owned the 88 shimmer, matte and warm palette, when I saw metal mania appear on Coastal Scents’ website, I just knew I had to have it.

Coastal Scents 88 Metal Mania Palette

After all, the palette (and CS palettes in general) in comparison to other eyeshadows is insanely good priced! Buy 2 MAC eyeshadows can cover both the palette and postage!

Coastal Scents 88 Metal Mania Palette

This is great for a neutral autumn / winters looks (so perfect for those of us living in the Southern Hemisphere), I would definitely choose this over the Warm palette, purely for the variation. Planning to utilise this palette a lot more for future looks and everyday wear :) You can order them online from Coastal Scent’s website for $24.95US.

Lookbook #5 – Antique Gold

May 16th, 2010 § 1 Comment

This look was inspired by Baroque music, namely Bach. I’ve been actively playing the classical piano for over 21 years, and every time work gets more intense (as per my last post), I find myself immersing myself in my music even further. It definitely helps relieve my stress levels, not to mention making my teacher very happy since I’m currently pursuing a diploma in the field.

I was really happy that I got to use the new Coastal Scents Metal Mania palette! I’ll be doing a quick review later this week hopefully, but it’s basically a great autumn and winter palette, as per the name, has a lot of metal-like colours. I’d see this being the perfect palette for Steampunk looks!

Products used:

Face
MAC Prep + Prime – Skin Base Visage
MAC Mineralize Satinfinish SPF15 Foundation – NC20
MAC Select Sheer / Loose – NC15

Cheeks
NARS Blush – Orgasm
NARS Highlighter – Albatross

Eyes
Coastal Scents 88 Metal Mania Palette
MAC Eye Shadow – Carbon
MAC Technakohl Liner Eye-Liner Kajal – Graphblack
L’Oreal Extra-Volume Collagene – Noir/Black

Lips
Chanel Aqualumiere Lipgloss 67

I’m almost tempted to make a black baroque style gown for this look, I think it would suit very well :)

Lookbook #4 – Evil Queen

May 9th, 2010 § Comments?

Start of last year my friend Shi Tenshi put together a Disney Princess group for Melbourne’s Supanova, in which I went as Snow White. Later that year she decided to do a Disney Villian group, in which I was to be Snow White’s Evil Step-mother! Unfortunately due to work I never managed to finish the costume (though I now have metres upon metres of beautiful purple silk collecting dust).

Figured either way I’d give her makeup a shot, I don’t have the sharpest of features, so I reckon a lot more contouring would have helped enhance the over all “evil” feel, but I still think I look pretty annoyed one way of another hehe.

Lookbook #3 – Zombie Smoke

May 5th, 2010 § 2 Comments

Thought I forgot about last week’s lookbook entry, right? Nah, I was just too caught up with other things. Anyways, last week I ran out of my usual daily contact lenses, which means having to fall back on my coloured lenses. I hadn’t used my gray ones before, so decided to give them a whirl and was happily surprised!

They gave me this ghostly look, I loved it! Going to be perfect for some future costumes I can see :) Having coloured contacts that actually work on me is rare (dark natural eye colours) so I was pretty stoked when I saw these on me :) Twas inspired to try a semi-vampireish / zombie look, I think I came out looking more tired than anything else, but I figured it wasn’t a terrible attempt :)

Lookbook #2 – MAC Too Fabulous

April 23rd, 2010 § Comments?

This week’s Lookbook entry is heavily inspired by MAC’s Too Fabulous line that recently came out (yet I used nothing from that line for this look)

I’m really in love with this look, or maybe it’s the lighting that I’m kiiinda getting better at (going to have to change the bulbs to white ones, WIP!). I’m really not that tanned in real life, but I sure look like it here! I used a ton of blush for this look which made me realise I still have a lot to learn about contouring. Plus, I think some non-lined false lashes would have been great!

But as always, had a lot of fun and I hope you enjoy!
