Hello Kitty Makeup Collection – Lips (Part 3)

November 12th, 2011 § 4 comments § permalink

The 3rd and final part of the Hello Kitty range I was provided! It was so difficult trying to decide which ones to feature on the blog and what not to, so I decided to feature all of them today for you. Unfortunately none of the reviews are in depth given the short amount of time I’ve had with these, but I wanted to at least provide swatches and an initial impression to help you guys in your shopping sprees :)

Let’s get into it!

Hello Kitty Semi Matte Lipstick – Bollywood

Hello Kitty

The lipsticks from this line have really cute packaging, and the texture, pigmentation and application was very good. But what put me off was the smell, it has the same sort of smell most cheaper lipsticks have. Not as strong, but it’s there. Unfortunately for someone like me who is very sensitive to smells, that would bug me. Similarly I really dislike the NYX lipsticks for this reason, only their smell is different, but it gives me a really bad headache X_x; Might be worth checking this out in the store to see if the smell would bother you too. This product goes for $12.95.

Hello Kitty Shine & Kiss Lipstick – Violetta

Hello Kitty

Pretty much have the same thoughts regarding this lipstick as I did for the one above. The main difference is that this particular lipstick is less pigmented, probably better for people wanting a softer shade. This product goes for $12.95.

Hello Kitty Lip Gloss – Baby Lip

Hello Kitty

I don’t wear glosses much, but if I did I’d quite enjoy this. It didn’t have any distinct smell, it was sticky but not unbearable and kept my lips relatively moisturised. Not too shabby at all, and it has a lovely sweet scent. This product goes for $13.95.

Hello Kitty Lip Balm – Kawai Kiss

Hello Kitty

First, I did not misspell “Kawai”, I know it’s really Kawaii, but that’s how it’s printed on the media release, so meh!

I really love how pigmented this lip balm is, it’s just as good if not better than some of the lipsticks from this collection. The texture is pretty soft and very comfortable on the lips, but what I can’t handle is the smell. It has a pretty strong rose fragrance that I know plenty of people would love, unfortunately I’m not one of those people. I’m not a big fan of rose scents in general, if I must have it around I’d prefer it to be just a hint. This product goes for $9.95.

Hello Kitty Diamond Gloss – Pink Paradise

Hello Kitty

Hmm, I like the idea of this product. The packaging is great, but I get absolutely no pigmentation when I apply this. It’s literally a clear gloss with specks of shimmer in it. I do love the smell of this though, smells like candy :D Anyways, it looks a ton better in the tube than it does the lips. This product goes for $9.95.

Overall this entire range was pretty good, some great products, most were good and a couple mediocre. But that’s typical of any range of products, let me know what your thoughts on the collection are! If I had to think of another equivalent brand, I’d almost think NYX.

Bloom Natural Flavour Lip Balm – Watermelon Crush Review and Photos

Bloom Natural Flavour Lip Balm - Watermelon Crush

Pros:

  • Very moisturising
  • Light weight
  • Deliciously fruity scent
  • Rolls all the way up and down

Cons:

  • Slightly odd shape

Price: $6.95AU

Rating: Fable in Fashion's Rating

Where: Bloom Cosmetics, Boost Juice stands, David Jones and Myer.

Bloom Natural Flavour Lip Balm - Watermelon Crush

My most ordered drink at Boost is the Watermelon Crush, so I was really amazed when the lovely people at Bloom sent me this particular flavour to try out! Seriously, how uncanny :O

It smells almost exactly like Watermelon Crush, it does have a bit of a “balm” smell to it (you’ll know what I mean if you use lip balms), but it’s very minor and helps distinguish it from the actual Watermelon Crush drink.

Love this balm hands down, it’s moisturising, non-greasy and lasts around 4-5 hours on me without food. Every time I get a new lip balm I always wind it all the way up to see if it will smoothly wind down, and it did. Passed that test!

At $6.95, if you’re a fan of boost drinks or just want a true fruity lip balm that applies clear, this is certainly meant for you. Other available flavours are Strawberry Squeeze, Berry Bang, Mango Tango, Banana Buzz and Tropical Storm, I’ll be sure to try all of them when I next get to a Bloom counter :D

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant Stick SPF 15 Review and Photos

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant Stick SPF 15

Pros:

  • Elegant packaging
  • Moisturises lips throughout the night
  • Has a herbal subtle scent
  • Leaves lips with a slight sheen
  • Contained SPF

Cons:

  • Leaves a wax like residue

Price: ~$19AU

Rating: Fable in Fashion's Rating

Where: David Jones or Myer

I remember reading about how Victoria Beckham raved about how much she loved the Eight Hour Cream by Elizabeth Arden, and so whilst I was travelling earlier last year I decided to pick up a little gift set of the same cream, and with it came this cute lip balm.

The one you see in the photo is actually my second tube, I have about less than 1cm left of my first tube. The first thing I noticed was the herbal scent, which I actually didn’t like at the start. I found it to be too over powering, but over time I got used to it and now I’m rather fond of it.

The product has a slight peachy tint to it, but when applied it goes on clear. The product does feel rather thick and almost wax like on the lips, which is why I only ever use this at night before I go to bed. I’d imagine it would be way too heavy for the day time, unless worn alone. Pity because it contains SPF which is ideal for day time use.

By the next day my lips feel moisturised but still slightly waxy. So it’s certainly not the perfect lip balm, but it does quite a good job none the less. I’d be keep to find a lip product that could do the same if not better job without the SPF component.

EOS Lip Balm Spheres

Pros:

  • Adorable packaging
  • Lovely fruity smells
  • Can coat both lips at once
  • Light moisturisaton

Cons:

  • Not very moistursing for winter or very chapped lips
  • Doesn’t last very long
  • Packaging stains very easily

Price: $6.35AU / 3.29US

Rating: Fable in Fashion's Rating

Where: Addicted 2 Lip Balm or CVS.

EOS Lip Balms have been floating around the blog and youtube world for some time now, it’s a spherical shaped lip balm designed to provide moisturse for your lips.

The packaging is without a doubt the most loved and talked about feature of the product, I haven’t seen anything like this before, simply adorable!

As for the product itself, that’s kinda of a different story. It smells lovely and does give a bit of moisturisation, but honestly it doesn’t stand up to the quality of other balms that really do help chapped lips. This reminds me a little of the Soap Opera Balm I reviewed last week, certainly not suitable for Winter, but would be great for Summer if you suffer from very mild dry lips.

But let’s face facts, it’s not the best lip balm out there, but it has earnt it’s spot in my personal makeup bag because it smells delicious and is just so cute! I’ve already admitted to being a superficially visual person, what more do you want from me!? j/k ;)

Soap Opera Lip Balm

A couple of months ago I was up in Olinda with Sefie, checking out all the cute little boutique shops. It’s not something I’ve ever done before, and I was surprised how much I loved it! I almost never take time to just “browse” stores, I’m very go in, go out sort of shopper. Will certainly try and do stuff like that more often, because it’s amazing what sort of things you can discover, such as Soap Opera.

Soap Opera is a modern looking spa that has recently opened over the Easter break in April, and we were luckily enough to stumble upon it on it’s opening day (freaky I know).

I went in to check out the products, and knew I wanted to at least walk away with something! Unfortunately most of their products, whilst claiming to be all natural, were rather expensive and had some pretty strong scents (not fantastic first impressions for me personally) so I decided to try out their lip balm as it had a scent I liked.

I loved the cute packaging, despite the fact it was in a tub, I don’t really mind it. It doesn’t feel too greasy upon application and my lips did feel softer. The smell is refreshing and it does feel very lightweight on the lips.

But the feeling didn’t last very long. And maybe it wasn’t supposed to, I don’t know. By around the 1-2 hr mark I couldn’t feel it on my lips anymore and needed to re-apply.

Overall, it’s a nice lip balm, it’s cute, it is travel friendly and I’d recommend it to people as a summer lip balm. In the colder months when skin really does get dry, this wouldn’t cut it, but in summer when you just want a light coating, this would be perfect. I’ll be putting it away till Summer time rolls around :)

Maybelline Babylips SPF 20 Lip Balm

During my regular trip into Priceline I recently came across this new (or not so new?) lip balm by Maybelline~

Now we all know how superficial I can be, two things drew my eye to this cutie! The packaging and the price :) I personally hate minty lip balms, can’t stand them, so I tried to choose carefully and read the ingredients~ Seems I did well because I really love the one I selected, flavour is Anti-Oxidant Berry.

It applies just like most lip balms, from a tube. It is clear and just 1-2 swipes is enough to leave your lips feeling hydrated for around six or so hours, less if you plan to eat and drink.

I love the scent, it smells lovely, nothing overpowering. It gradually becomes more and more subtle during wear to the point where I almost forget I have it on. Unlike other balms this doesn’t feel heavy at all. It’s relatively lightweight with just a hint of greasiness, which doesn’t bother me.

Highly recommend this lip balm, it’s the one I wear every morning now before I head off to work if my lips need some balm and it has so far served me well :)

Lancôme Juicy Tube – Exotic Bomb by Yayoi Kusama Swatches and Photos

Lancôme Juicy Tube - Exotic Bomb by Yayoi Kusama

I’m sure you’ve all heard of Lancôme’s Juicy Tubes, known as their lip gloss / balm range, which is designed to give your lips a pop of sheer colour whilst keeping them moisturised and hydrated. I personally own three, my favourite being Melon :9 But I have to say that Peche and Fraise both make a close second. When Lancôme kindly sent me Exotic Bomb I was extremely excited, especially when I pulled the tube out of the box and saw the amazingly cute design!

Lancôme Juicy Tube - Exotic Bomb by Yayoi Kusama

How cute right? The design for all the tubes (there are 6 total, each with a different design) are by Yayoi Kusama, a very popular Japanese artist. This particular collection is limited edition. Exotic Bomb is actually similar in scent and appearance to Fraise in the tube, but when applied is quite a bit more pigmented. The micro shimmers are gorgeous, but you can’t feel them on your lips, the best part~ :D

If you are a newbie to the Lancôme Juicy Tube range, I think the most important thing to note is that these glosses have a fruity scent respective to their flavour, nothing overpowering, but I would certainly try these out in person to test your tolerance if you are sensitive. I do find them to be hydrating and give great shine and colour, but they can prove to be very sticky. So keep your hair out of your face if you intend to use these (as you should when using any gloss to be honest)

Lancôme Juicy Tube - Exotic Bomb by Yayoi Kusama

The collection contains 6 shades / flavours all together, Crazy Yuzu, Vigorous Fruit, Exotic Bomb, Yoga Vanilla, Baba Jasmine and Peace & Flowers, they come out on the 10th of July, 2011 at $29 each, so plenty of time to save up :) I can’t wait to check out of the rest of the collection :D
