September Empties

September 29th, 2011 § 4 comments § permalink

So this month’s empties is a bit of a mixed bag, not everything is actually empty, but I have good reasons for getting rid of them!

These little eye shadow pots are technically empty because I depotted them into a larger palette to save space :D I got them at a 2 for 1 deal at The Face Shop just before they closed for renovations and were trying to get rid of as much stock as possible :D The eye shadows themselves are quite lovely, I’ll be sure to do a big post about them soon enough. So this is kind of a “cheat” empties XD

These are the true empties:

Johnson’s Cleansing Wipe 3 in 1 Sensitive Skin
Currently one of my favourite cleansing wipes, I think I’ve gone through about 4-5 packs of these, I use it every time to clean up a Book of Fables because I find it to be the most efficient way to get rid of ALL my makeup (though I usually need to finish off with a toner if I’m not jumping straight into the shower after). Love these and I always buy them in bulk when they are on special.

Clinique’s Super Defense SPF 25 Moisturiser Sample
You guys know, I’ve been through countless tubs of this stuff now. In fact the last tub made my May Empties where I pretty much summed up my opinion of it. I’ve got one more tub to get through still completely sealed in my stash. I’m currently working my way through Cetaphil’s Facial Moisturiser with SPF 30, so when I finish that off (if I do, I’m not really liking it -_-;) then I might come back to this or try something new.

Clinqiue Super Rescue Antioxidant Night Moisturiser Sample
Another classic favourite of mine whose full sized version made its way into my July Empties, like the above day version, I also have another unopened tube of this in my stash. I’m currently trying to polish off the last of my Body Shop Vitamin E Night Cream, after which I might either opt to try something different to give my skin a bigger break from Clinique. As I said, there is nothing fundamentally wrong with these two products, I more want to see if there are any products out there that could do something new and amazing for my skin :)

Maybelline Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length Mascara
A lengthening mascara that performed pretty average for me. I didn’t end up using this a great deal, only because whilst it did lengthen my lashes, it didn’t do it by a whole lot. It’s a lovely mascara, but I wasn’t left feeling overly impressed by it.
Maybelline Pulse Perfection Mascara
Really loved this mascara, and I’m not sure why I never got around to reviewing this for you guys O_o I used it quite extensively for a solid 1-2 months till I honestly ran out, which is rare for me regarding any products (let alone makeup)! The formula is lovely, the “pulsing” feature is kind of pointless.

e.l.f Eyelid Primer
I was very tempted to cut this tube open to see how much primer was actually left as I’m sure there was at least a 1/3 of the tube stuck to the sides, but given I have a mountain of other primers to work my way through I decided to let it be and move on. Really loved this primer, and at $1US you really can’t go wrong!

If I wasn’t a beauty blogger with a backlog of products to g through I would definitely repurchase :) You can read my original review here.

Vaseline Intensive Care Dry Skin
Great all-purpose moisturiser :) I always make sure I at least have a small tube of this somewhere, it’s a real staple in my collection. I took this with me to China early last year during winter when my skin started peeling from the severe cold weather, and the only thing that managed to keep my skin smooth and “normal” was this moisturiser. It absorbs really fast, so I did find myself needing to reapply a few times a day. We’re talking about seriously cold “my bottle of water is now a block of ice” weather though. And this range is really affordable.

Clinique Super City Block SPF 40

I think I only managed to use about 1/3 of this before I just had to throw it out. The product was very greasy, felt heavy on the skin and gave off a strange chemical smell. I truly tried to make myself use it as best I could, since I couldn’t stand it on my face I tried my arms and legs for when I go out and I just couldn’t hack it. It made me feel very uncomfortable and generally greasy, so unfortunately have had to throw it out. Too bad, I really loved the fact it was SPF 40 :(

Book of Fables: Chapter 66 – Dance Floor

I remember watching Sophie Ellis Bexter perform Murder on the Dance Floor on TV as a teenager and I was completely in awe of not only how amazing her voice was, but how pretty she was! I loved the chicness of her look and makeup, and over 10 years later here we are~ I tried to replicate the look to a degree, I even cut my hair to get the straight pony tail lol. All I did was try and replicate her makeup, I’m well aware I’ll never match up to the beauty that is Ms Bexter <3

Book of Fables: Chapter 65 – Green with Envy

Celina Fables in Fashion Book of Fables

This is the second time I’ve attempted this look, the first time was whilst I was bored on holiday. We were staying in a cabin, I was sitting outside surrounded by the forest~ Here is a photo of the original look :) I had to do everything with my only eye shadow palette (not including the lipstick) :(

After filming that look I decided I could do a better job with some cream products at home, and created the look you see now :D

Nothing much to it, just a basic green look :) Minus the leaves and maybe change the green to browns and this would be an awesome night time look :) Hope you enjoy :D

Book of Fables: Chapter 63 – Shia

Celina Fables in Fashion Book of Fables

Another cosplay chapter! :D Some of my favourite chapters, introducing the lovely Shia from Pita-ten <3 The demon who can't seem to be bad :( You can view the entire costume and gallery on Extreme Motion :)

Makeup wise, this look is pretty simple, the circle lenses really do pull the look together :) And yes, I totally wanted to kick myself every time I pulled a “I’m cute, love me” pose! But I had a blast, it is cosplay after all~ And I’m doing my best to try and get more “into character” with each chapter too! Can’t imagine what voice I’ll have to use when I do a horror related look? hehe.

Book of Fables: Chapter 62 – Disney Snow White

I grew up watching Disney, and loved all the Disney princesses~ My favourite is probably Belle from Beauty and the Beast, but for cosplay purposes I thought I suited Snow White much better :) If you would like to view the entire costume I made for my Snow White cosplay, please view the gallery here.

I absolutely loved cosplaying Snow White :) I’d love to do more princesses in the future, enjoy the tutorial :)

Maybelline Babylips SPF 20 Lip Balm Review and Photos

  • Leaves lips with a slight sheen
  • Lasts up to 6 hrs

Cons:

  • Slightly greasy residue

Price: $3.99AU

Rating: Fable in Fashion's Rating

Where: Priceline, Chemists and Supermarkets.

Maybelline Babylips SPF 20 Lip Balm

During my regular trip into Priceline I recently came across this new (or not so new?) lip balm by Maybelline~

Now we all know how superficial I can be, two things drew my eye to this cutie! The packaging and the price :) I personally hate minty lip balms, can’t stand them, so I tried to choose carefully and read the ingredients~ Seems I did well because I really love the one I selected, flavour is Anti-Oxidant Berry.

It applies just like most lip balms, from a tube. It is clear and just 1-2 swipes is enough to leave your lips feeling hydrated for around six or so hours, less if you plan to eat and drink.

I love the scent, it smells lovely, nothing overpowering. It gradually becomes more and more subtle during wear to the point where I almost forget I have it on. Unlike other balms this doesn’t feel heavy at all. It’s relatively lightweight with just a hint of greasiness, which doesn’t bother me.

Highly recommend this lip balm, it’s the one I wear every morning now before I head off to work if my lips need some balm and it has so far served me well :)

Book of Fables: Chapter 59 – Alone

June 3rd, 2011 § 42 comments § permalink

Celina Fables in Fashion Book of Fables

There have been days in my life when you truly do feel alone. It can be for any number of reasons, but like most people, I’ve experienced loss in my life, and it has made me question my own mortality (it was actually one of the driving factors towards starting this blog) and it makes you realise what is truly important at the end of the day.

Videos have become a way to really express the types of emotions I go through, and this video is reflective of those tougher times.

I found a very similar look online, so I take no credit behind the creativity. It’s been a concept I’ve wanted to try for ages, the initial plan was to simply powder over / airbrush actual lace on my face, but I wanted it to be a bigger challenge. I wanted to push my skills, whilst not perfect I think I was able to convey the message relatively well :)

I hope you enjoy the look and video as much as I did making it :)
