OPI Muppet Review, Swatches and Photos

OPI Muppets Collection

Another late collection, that would be OPI’s Muppet collection. I used to live on the Muppets as a kid, I had all their tapes, watched them addictively on TV. They, along with Young Talent Time and Sesame Street were my life! That’s part of the reason I felt it necessary to review the entire collection. I’ve had this sitting on my desk for the longest time ever, and am only just getting around to swatching them now! Too many collections and also I’ve been putting off anything with glitter in them :3 It’s a pain to remove!

It’s hard to really give a general overall comment on a collection this large, but you can be the judge based on the swatches and I’ll do my best to find the closest possible dupe :) All swatches are 2 coats with no top coat.

Animal-istic

OPI Muppets Collection

A pinky red shade with bright red shimmers, Zoya’s Kamilah is a slightly pinker version of this.

Designer de Better

OPI Muppets Collection

A frosty white shimmery polish with red shimmers, reminds me of snow for some reason :)

Divine Swine

OPI Muppets Collection

Pink glitters with large chunky silver flecks, totally Miss Piggy inspired!

Excuse Moi

OPI Muppets Collection

Silver and pink glitters with chunky silver flecks, I’m wearing this on my toes right now :D

Fresh Frog of Bel Air

OPI Muppets Collection

Forest green glitters with chunky silver flecks, such a great partner to Divine Swine ;D

Gettin Miss Piggy With It

OPI Muppets Collection

Red glitters with red and silver chunky flecks, pretty terrible on it’s own. Definitely should have tried this with a solid polish underneath :(

Gone Gonzo

OPI Muppets Collection

Blue glitters with large silver flecks, really love this one for some reason. Especially on it’s own! Reminds me of Winter~

Meep Meep Meep

OPI Muppets Collection

A darker hot pink polish with lots of magenta glitters, as you can tell the finish isn’t that smooth :( I found OPI’s The One That Got Away to be a less opaque version or OPI’s Let Me Entertain You to be a lighter and less opaque version.

Pepe’s Purple Passion

OPI Muppets Collection

A deep maroon / chocolate shade with dark red shimmers. Somehow I don’t think the execution of this was very good because the shimmers or perhaps glitters made the finish gritty :( I found OPI’s Velvet Voyeur and China Glaze’s Velvet Bow to be similar dupes.

Rainbow Connection

OPI Muppets Collection

Quite literally a multi-colour array of glitters and flecks, I don’t think I’d want to layer this over any other solid colours, I think this would look amazing if there were more glitters in general, so maybe a few more coats?

Warm and Fozzie

OPI Muppets Collection

Brown chocolate polish with warm gold flecks, I really do love this because it does remind me of Fozzie Bear, who was one of my favourite characters from the Muppets Show :) Some how completely relatable! :D

Wocka Wocka

OPI Muppets Collection

A maroon almost crème shade with the finest micro shimmers, China Glaze’s City Siren is a fully crème version of this.

OPI Nice Stem Review, Swatches & Photos

OPI Nice Stem

Summer officially begins this week, so I figured I’d kick it off by featuring OPI’s Summer 2011 collection called Nice Stem. This collection features four pink shades with a range of finishes. Minus the one with chunky glitter I’d say this range is very wearable for the more girly girls (or guys!) at work :D

All swatches are two coats, no top coat.

Be a Dahlia Won’t You

OPI Nice Stem

A fuchsia shade infused with gold shimmer, certainly one of the more “common” shades around, nothing overly unique about it.

Come to Poppy

OPI Nice Stem

Coral fuchsia shade with micro shimmers, I really love how smooth the finish for this polish is. It feels very elegant and clean… or maybe that’s my polish job ;) /shot

I Lily Love You

OPI Nice Stem

OPI Nice Stem

A jelly light pink with chunky hologram glitter, the first photo is the polish on its own and the second photo is it layered over Come to Poppy. I’m not sure why it has this cracked effected in the second photo, really strange. I much prefer this on it’s own.

Play the Peonies

OPI Nice Stem

A soft light pink pearl like shade, it reminds me of polish a bride may wear to her wedding. So light, fresh and regal.

OPI Spookette Halloween 2011 Collection Review, Swatches and Photos

October 31st, 2011 § 10 comments § permalink

Another Halloween is upon us, and unlike last year this will be the only Halloween collection I’ll feature for this year. Most of the other collections generally left me feeling a bit underwhelmed, and honestly so did this one except for one final polish, Zom Body To Love, which you’ll see at the end.

I’d say generally speaking these polishes (not sure if it is because they are only mini) were below OPI’s usual standards, I felt they were a bit more difficult to work with, thick and slightly streaky. And honestly, a crème black and white is nothing spectacular. In retrospect I’d have been better off just purchasing the last polish instead.

All swatches are 2 coats with no top coat.

OPI Spookette Halloween 2011 Collection

I Only Date Werewolves

OPI Spookette Halloween 2011 Collection

A crème black, definitely nothing special unless you have a particular love for black nails.

He’s My Boo

OPI Spookette Halloween 2011 Collection

Just another crème white, but I do make a slight exception to white just because they are popular with French manicures, so you get a little bit more use (at least for me) out of white than black.

Mummy Knows Best

OPI Spookette Halloween 2011 Collection

A pumpkin orange crème, a bit of a variation and I don’t think I have anything quite like this in my collection so if you happen to love orange on your nails this is worth a look.

Zom Body To Love

OPI Spookette Halloween 2011 Collection

The star of the collection! A green glow in the dark polish, seriously! I think I might have to get a full bottle of this stuff if I can still find it, I’m in love with it :D It applies pretty clear, just a slight green tint, but turn off the lights and bam! Glow in the dark, how epic is that?

OPI Spookette Halloween 2011 Collection

The glow isn’t consistent because mini bottles of OPI don’t come with metal beads to properly mix the formula in the bottle, one of the reasons I’m considering getting a full sized bottle… that and I’d love to overlay this polish over a normal manicure. So it looks relatively normal during the day and then you have pretty glowy nails at night :D

OPI Texas Collection Review, Swatches and Photos

OPI Texas Collection

Another nail polish post featuring OPI’s Texas Collection :) This isn’t the complete collection, I think I ended up getting about 6 out of 12 from the entire collection? Can’t really recall.

I’m going to be honest, I swatched these sooo long ago (and never remembered to jot down notes) that I can’t actually remember how good these were. All I can recall is feeling rather “meh” about the entire colour selection but pretty happy with the quality. So for today I’m just going to post the swatches for you guys to enjoy :) Sorry I couldn’t contribute more :(

OPI Katy Perry Collection Review, Swatches and Photos

September 12th, 2011 § 8 comments § permalink

Katy Perry’s collection with OPI is a bit of a weird one for me. To me it’s a bit of a hit and miss collection, and there isn’t a whole lot of consistency in it for me.

But let’s get on with the swatches and you can be the judge. All swatches are 2 coats and no top coat.

Last Friday Night

A tinted blue chunky holo glitter polish, I kind of wish this was as pigmented as it looks in the bottle. As you can see, unless you dig this look, it works better layered over a solid polish first.

Not Like The Movies

An outer space colour, no seriously, maybe it’s cause I stayed up working till 3:30am last night and so my brain is still in bed, but I can’t quite put my finger on how to describe this colour. It’s a very metallic duo chrome effect, smooth finish. Very cool.

Teenage Dream

Pink glitter with chunky holo glitter particles, I really love this one. My favourite, though as you can already tell, a royal pain to take off! I use this primarily on my toes (as I do most glitters now). Gorgeous!

The One That Got Away

A berry red with pink micro-shimmers, it’s photographing a lot more red in this swatch that it appears in the bottle. It’s a lovely shade, but it’s not at all unique. I think I have about 10 bottles of this same shade both from OPI and a number of other brands. And from Katy Perry, I expected something more unique :/

All in all, not an outstanding collection in my opinion. Maybe your thoughts are different, but this isn’t a must have collection to me (I’d probably recommend Teenage Dream). And certainly nothing here is very suitable for the office (at least not in my offices!)

OPI Pirates of the Caribbean Review, Swatches and Photos

July 25th, 2011 § 6 comments § permalink

OPI Pirates of the Caribbean

Another OPI collection inspired by yet another movie, bit of a tread for OPI have you noticed? Not that I particularly mind, the formula for these were very consistent, pigmented and easy to use. I managed to get away with using only 2 coats which was awesome! As usual, no top coat was used.

Mermaid’s Tears
OPI Pirates of the Caribbean
A muted green, seemed to be inspired by some of the greenery you may find underwater. It’s a lovely shade, and surprisingly I wasn’t able to find an exact dupe for this.

Planks A Lot
OPI Pirates of the Caribbean
A vibrant purple, probably one of the more saturated colours from this collection, very similar to OPI’s A Grape Fit!

Skull & Glossbones
OPI Pirates of the Caribbean
A muted gray, surprisingly I also couldn’t find a dupe for this despite this not being the most unique shade I’ve seen before.

Sparrow Me the Drama
OPI Pirates of the Caribbean
A medium pink shade, one of my favourites from the collection. I think Planks A Lot, Mermaid’s Tears and Sparrow Me the Drama are perfect together~

Steady as She Rose
OPI Pirates of the Caribbean
A soft pink with a touch of gray, it is like a muted dusty light pink shade.

Stranger Tides
OPI Pirates of the Caribbean
A light moss green shade, really reminds me of some of Essie’s latest shades during the winter / fall months.

OPI Femme de Cirque Review, Swatches

May 2nd, 2011 § 2 comments § permalink

OPI Femme de Cirque

I am such a huge fan of Cirque de Soleil, I remember I watched my first live show back when I was in high school, my father had received a pair of free tickets from work and offered to take me :D . It was an amazing experience and I’ve been back several times when they come around to Melbourne.

Something I love about OPI are the names they give their polishes, both clever and comical :) The polishes in this collection are all pretty sheer, to achieve the pigmentation below I required 3 coats for each. I think however that was the point of this collection since it is part of the Soft Shades series.

In fact some of these colours would work great as a top coat for other colours. As always, no top coat was used. The formula was great for some, below average for others.

Step Right Up!
OPI Femme de Cirque
A very soft light pink nude, it’s not an overly unique shade but it does have a lovely milkiness to it, I found it to really compliment my own skin tone.

So Many Clowns… So Little Time
OPI Femme de Cirque
A slightly muted light pink, similar to Step Right Up! but sheering with a hint of peach in it. I found the formula for this particular polish to be difficult to work with, you can already see in swatches that it appears a bit streaky.

I Juggle… Men
OPI Femme de Cirque
A lightly tinted pink polish with pink iridescent flecks, gorgeous! You can see how pretty the flecks are in this magnified swatch.

OPI Femme de Cirque

This would be amazing as a top coat for a more pigmented polish, but it does need several coats, this polish was very sheer.

In the Spot-light Pink
OPI Femme de Cirque

A tinted pink polish, this one was incredibly sheer that I was slightly concerned the tinted colour wouldn’t show up on camera. Fortunately it did! It’s very subtle, very everyday friendly, but even for everyday I would want to use a polish that showed up more and had a bigger impact.

Not a bad collection this time by OPI, but I’ve seen better. If you’re a sheer pink sort of person, this is the collection for you. But if you want something more defined, such as nude pinks or solid colours, keep moving!
