Book of Fables: Chapter 65 – Green with Envy

Celina Fables in Fashion Book of Fables

This is the second time I’ve attempted this look, the first time was whilst I was bored on holiday. We were staying in a cabin, I was sitting outside surrounded by the forest~ Here is a photo of the original look :) I had to do everything with my only eye shadow palette (not including the lipstick) :(

After filming that look I decided I could do a better job with some cream products at home, and created the look you see now :D

Nothing much to it, just a basic green look :) Minus the leaves and maybe change the green to browns and this would be an awesome night time look :) Hope you enjoy :D

Book of Fables: Chapter 61 – On the Hunt

Celina Fables in Fashion Book of Fables

I must have short term memory, because I always want to shoot up in the Dandenong, and constantly look forward to it…. until I get there and FIND A LEECH ON MY LEG!

I really need to schedule all my “forest” related projects to Spring and Summer, because not only was I attacked by bugs, I was absolutely freezing! :( Serves me right to be prancing around the forest in sleeveless clothes during winter. (Though now I’m thinking of a shoot I’d like to try during winter on the beach….wow, I must really hate myself)

That aside, I’m really glad I managed to get this video done. I think I created the makeup more to suit the theme, rather than building a theme around the makeup, which is what I usually do. I’ve always wanted to do a simple “Rambo” inspired sort of look, short of rubbing dirt on to my face I think I managed pretty well lol!

Favourite aspect was just filming the intro and outro for this tutorial, so be sure to check those out :)

Book of Fables: Chapter 49 – Day of the Dead

March 25th, 2011 § 21 comments § permalink

A little while back Siera asked whether I could do her makeup for a shoot she was planning for a character created by the artist Sylvia Ji. I wanted to test out the makeup on myself first to get a feel for the look, this is my second attempt which I stupidly started at 10pm at night and finished at 12:15am on a weeknight :P So I didn’t manage to do as much detailing as I had originally wanted since I was craving sleep instead :/

Given time and a third attempt I’d confident I could do a much better job, fingers crossed when Siera arranges a time for the shoot she’ll look many more times amazing :D

Face
MAC Prep + Prime – Skin Base Visage
Illamasqua Rich Liquid Foundation – RF100
e.l.f High Definition Powder

Patterns
MAC Fluidline – Blacktrack
MAC Fluidline – Macroviolet
Revlon Colorburst Lipstick – True Red
Rimmel Colour Rush Quad Eye Shadow – Smokey Noir
NYX Jumbo Eye pencil – Yellow
MAC Eye Shadow – Chrome Yellow
Savvy by DN Luxury Liner – Shimmering Slate
Maybelline Falsies Mascara – Very Black

Prime your face, and then apply white foundation all over the face, neck and upper chest. I’d considered doing the shoulders too if you’re planning a real shoot.

The rest of the look is actually very straight forward, simply copy step by step each detail from the original artwork to your face. I primarily used a black gel liner for all the black patterns and used a purple gel liner for the finer details (though it seems to have photographed black) Make sure you have a fine eyeliner brush and be prepared to constantly have to clean out your brush from the white foundation build up.

For the eyes, after placing the gel liner I would set it with a black eye shadow to prevent creasing.

For the yellow I used a yellow cream eye shadow then put on a yellow powder eye shadow to intensify the colour.

I don’t think there is much else I can say about the look tutorial wise, but if you have a specific question let me know in the comments~

Book of Fables – Chapter 40: We R Who We R

January 21st, 2011 § 12 comments § permalink

This look was taken / inspired from Ke$ha’s “We R Who We R” music video. When I saw the blue (my favourite colour), the glitter and how “hard edge” the look was, it instantly landed on my list of looks to do. It is a bit of a “tired” look, I really struggled to make myself appear awake, I swear I’m not sleepy in these photos!

Also the look is intentionally “dirty”, it is Ke$ha after all ;)

Unfortunately the blue glitter I used was not the correct shade :( Can’t believe how hard it is to find a solid saturated blue eye glitter, luckily after a bit of digging I found some NYX cream glitters that were least blue~ Hope you enjoy the look!

Face
Prime your face, apply liquid foundation 1-2 shades darker than your current shade and then set with a bronzer.

Cheeks
Add additional bronzer to your cheeks, then lightly pat on some black eye shadow. Smudge it out with your fingers, we want a dirty look here. Dust on some shimmering white highlighter to your cheek bones. Contour and highlight your nose.

Eyes
Prime your eyes, then pat on some blue pigment, bring into your crease and then wing out almost all the way to your hair line. Apply some to your lower lash line too. Take a light blue eye shadow and soften the edges of the pigment. Take a black shadow and apply to the outer corner of your eyes. Line your upper lash line with a black gel liner.

Take some silver glitter and apply to the inner corner of your eyes, then apply a blue glitter under your eyes as seen in the photos.

Curl your lashes, add mascara and then apply your false lashes.

Fill in and extend your brows with a black eye shadow. Dust a tiny bit of blue eye shadow to your brows.

Lips
Apply any lip balm to prevent your lips from becoming too dry. Then apply the blue pigment all over the lips, followed by a blue glitter and silver glitter.

Book of Fables – Chapter 39: Film Noir

January 14th, 2011 § 20 comments § permalink

Hmm, I’ve always wanted to do a look like this~ Complete with hair and makeup, now all I need is the correct setting and dress :) You’ll notice the background is a tad different, I’ve moved my “studio” equipment (aka two cheap lamps and foam core reflector) into a separate room (yay I can walk around in my bedroom again!) which unfortunately has next to no white walls nor natural light :/ So I’m going to have to start figuring out ways to simulate the wonderful white walls I have in my bedroom :( No,  worries, it’ll figure something out, one thing I love about photography ;)

In the meant time enjoy, and I included a quick tutorial on how to style my hair :D Hope it helps!

Face
MAC Prep + Prime
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation – Gobi
Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer – Beige
NARS Loose Powder – Flesh

Cheeks
Nude by Nature Cheek Bone Highlighter – Virgin Blush
NYX Mosaic Powder – Highlighter
NARS Powder Bronzer – Laguna

Eyes
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Coastal Scents 88 Metal Mania Palette
Rimmel Quad Eye Shadow – Smokey Noir
Prestige Eyeliner – White
MAC Fluidline Blacktrack
L’Oreal Extra-Volume Collagene – Noir
Shu Uemura Eye Lash Curler
DUO Lash Glue
False Lashes

Lips
Savvy by DB Lipliner – Cosmos
YSL Lip Twin

Face
Prime your face, apply your foundation and conceal any discolouration. Set with a face powder.

Cheeks
Apply a bronze to the hollows of your cheeks, then a matte burgundy rose coloured blush to the apples of your cheeks. Use a matte highlighter to your cheekbones. We’re trying to contour our face to sharpen the look.

Eyes
Prime your lids, then using a white eyeliner pencil, colour in the inner corner of your eyes, brow bone and blend. Take a white shimmery eye shadow and apply over the white eyeliner. Next take a medium to light red-copper-ish eye shadow and apply all over the lids, extended into the crease. Take some of this colour on to the lower lash line. Take a medium to dark burgundy eye shadow and apply into the crease, blend towards the brow bone and wing it out.

Next take a black eye shadow and blend into the outer corner of your eyes. Blend the colours to ensure there are no harsh lines, but make sure that the gradient effect is still obvious. Next take the black eye shadow and fill in your eyebrows lightly. Then take the same eye shadow and line your upper lash line. Don’t need to be 100% accurate, we want to smoke it out just a bit.

Take a gel black liner and go over the black eye shadow with a more intense and precise line. Curl your lashes and apply two coats of mascara. Finally apply false eye lashes.

Lips
Line your lips with a dark red lip liner and fill in. Then take an intense red lipstick and go over the liner with a lip brush.

Hair
Easier than it seems! Give yourself a side part (use a clip if needed) then curl your hair with a curling iron. Once done, take each curl and roll it back up towards your hair and pin. Do this with the rest of your hair to complete the look.

Book of Fables – Chapter 35: Latin Nights

December 17th, 2010 § 12 comments § permalink

I’ve never seen myself so tanned before but I think the tanned skin actually suits me! (Not that I plan to start tanning, no no! Natural skin tone FTW) I almost feel like I’m playing a character with this look, but the look is rather provocative / out there, at least for my personal every day tastes. But yeah, that’s what I love about cosplay and makeup, being able to completely transform yourself~

Still, I could so imagine wearing this look to a Salsa club at night~ :D

I altered these cheap earrings from Diva since I don’t have pierced ears. Bought a stack of stuff there for literally under $30 that I plan to use for costumes and future looks~ I don’t normally wear jewellery in my everyday life so the cheaper the better XD; (So long as it lasts long enough to take photos)

Face
MAC Prep + Prime
Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation – Sand Beige
Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder – Light
Rimmel Natural Bronzer Sun Bronze

Cheeks
MAC Powder Blush – Dollymix
Canmake Highlighter

Eyes
MAC Paint Pot Painterly
Illamasqua 4 Colour Liquid Metal Palette
NYX Ultra Pearl Mania – Gold Yellow
Lime Crime Magic Dust Pompadour
MAC Pigment – Teal
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil – Zero
MAC Fluidline – Blacktrack
Chanel Sculpte Sourcils Cendre – Noir
L’Oreal Extra Volume Collagene -Noir
Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler

Lips
Maybelline Lip Pencil – Rose
Christian Dior Lipstick – 355
Christian Dior Lipstick – 255

Face
After priming your face, if you have a light skin tone try and use a slightly darker foundation. Instead of using normal powder, use a light bronzer to set the foundation all over your face, neck, chest and shoulders.

Cheeks
I used a medium bronzer and highlighter to contour your face. Add a medium pink blush to your cheeks, it should appear very subtle, like the pink is just glowing.

Eyes
Prime your lids, then use a yellow cream shadow all over the inner half of your lid and brow bone. Blend a blue cream shadow to the outer corner of your eyes and under the eye. With a green cream shadow, blend it all the way up and out towards the hairline and past the brows. Set all the cream shadow with a matching pigment.

Line your upper lash and water line with a black liner, and draw on some lashes above and below your eye. Shape your brows with a dark brow pencil.

Curl your lashes and apply two coats of mascara.

Lips
Line and fill in your lips, fill in with a light pink lipstick, then apply a darker pink lipstick to the center of your lips to add dimension.

Book of Fables – Chapter 33: Black Swan

December 3rd, 2010 § 19 comments § permalink

A replication of Natalie Portman’s Black Swan, I couldn’t not do this look because it is so regal and elegant. I actually have shot this look twice, first time I forgot to buy a tiara and tried draping lots of pearls all over myself. It looked okay, but it just wasn’t carry across the same feel / idea. So a few days later I bought a cheap tiara from Diva and re-shot it all :) Enjoy!

MAC Prep and Prime
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation – Gobi
MAC Set Powder – Invisible
Face of Australia Blusher – Outback Primrose
MAC Eye Shadow – Crystal Avalanche

Rimmel Soft Kohl – Jet Black
MAC Fluidline – Blacktrack
Rimmel Quad Eye Shadow – Smokey Noir
MAC Fluidline – Frostlite
L’Oreal Extra-Volume Collagene – Black
Coastal Scent 88 Matte Palette
Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler

MAC Lip Pencil – Vino
MAC Lipstick – Dubonnet
NYX Jumbo Lip Pencil – Vixen

Face
Prime your entire face, then apply a liquid foundation a few shades lighter than your own. Set with a clear powder, I love this powder because it means I can have an array of different foundation shades and only ever need one shade of powder!

Apply a dusty rose blush to the hollows of your cheeks, and a matte white powder to all your high points. Using a brown matte powder, sculpt the nose to make it appear sharper and smaller. We want to keep the face conservative as possible since the eyes will be so dramatic, but we still need to sculpt it to add more drama.

Eyes

Outline the swam wings around your eyes with a black eye liner, and fill it in with a black gel liner (cream shadow or wet eye shadow is just as good). Set the cream with a black eye shadow powder to prevent creasing. Next with a white gel liner, create flicks across the black to simulate the appearance of feathers. Line the bottom of the swan wings with a red eye shadow.

Curl your lashes, and apply 2 coats of mascara.

Lips
Line the lips with a dark red lip pencil, then fill in with a deep red lipstick. Next using an almost-black red, line your lips. We are trying to darker the outer edges of our lips to added further dimension to this look.
