Essie Winter 2010 Collection Review, Swatches and Photos

Essie Winter 2010 Collection

Introducing Essie’s 2010 Winter collection, these became available in the states probably a good six or so months ago, but are now officially available in Myer Australia as of June 2011 🙂 They go for $18.95AU a bottle here.

Generally, this collection reminds me a lot of Essie’s Fall 2010 collection, only darker and naturally slightly more pigmented. Some really gorgeous browns and darkened reds here, perfect for the cold weather 🙂 Most swatches are only two coats without any top coat.

Smokin Hot
Essie Winter 2010 Collection
A dark brown gray crème, I found it a little difficult to swatch initially because I had grabbed too much product. Let that be a lesson to clean down the brush first when applying darker polishes.

Masquerade Belle
Essie Winter 2010 Collection
A darken cherry red stain like crème, I really botched up this application 😡 Reds and very dark colours are so unforgiving when it comes to swatches.

Silken Cord
Essie Winter 2010 Collection
An almost shockingly bright red crème, I think Pretty Woman nails when I see this colour, but with a slight coral-ish twist to it.

Hot Cocoa
Essie Winter 2010 Collection
A taupe brown gray crème, as close to a nude as this collection will get. Probably my favourite from the collection, has a very luxe feel to it.

Luxedo

An almost black plum crème, if I did a better job you probably wouldn’t be able to tell it was plum until you viewed it under the sunlight. Reminds me of OPI’s Black Cherry Chutney.

Going Incognito
Essie Winter 2010 Collection
A deep emerald green crème with an almost blue undertone, a stand out colour from this collection in that it moves away from the browns and reds.

This is a safe and conservative collection by Essie, which is pretty typical of the brand. But I will say they are the masters of crème polishes in the market 🙂

  1. Sorry Essie – you’ve bored me a little with this collection!

Oh and just a tip, use a small makeup/lip/concealer brush and dip it in nail polish remover or acetone and ‘paint’ the bits on your finger and cuticle line where the polish has gotten. Such an easy way to tidy up a paint job. I’m so clumsy painting with my left hand, so I pretty much always do this!

  3. I hear ya about dark reds, they are hard to paint and photograph nicely. I have this collection too and one of my favs from essie.

  4. Going Incognito is a gorgeous color! But the other shades didn’t impress me much.

  5. Not a huge fan of this collection to be honest. Smokin Hot is probably my fave. I just feel like we’ve seen all these shades before. Thanks for sharing thou, its always a good thing when my wallet is happier than I am!

    1. Seriously your comment really made me smile, that’s exactly why I make these posts, to help give other’s an idea as to how the product is before they buy it! So I’m ultra happy I was able to help 😀

  6. Oh, I love Hot Cocoa, I have never seen the finish in a milky taupe…

P.S. Actually I have seen them yesterday in ULTA, it just didn’t say anything about winter collection.

    1. Man, I’m super jealous you have access to an ULTA! 🙂
