Dior Diorshow 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette – 669 Soft Cashmere Review

The Dior eyeshadow palettes have long been one of my favourite palettes to use, I’ve been collecting them for many years now and have seen them go through many iterations. However it’s been a few years since I last picked one up so I decided to go through the latest collection and decided on a cool neutral palette (no surprises there) and purchased Soft Cashmere. The Dior Diorshow 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette in 669 Soft Cashmere is available for $121AUD from Sephora AU, Dior & David Jones or for $72USD from Sephora US, Nordstrom or Ulta.

First up I want to focus on the shadows themselves and then the packaging as I have two separate thoughts on these. Right out the gate, the shadow quality is phenomenal. Similar to how the older palettes performed decades ago but better. I’ve always found the permanent shadows Dior releases to be smooth and buttery, very easy to apply but I have found that the pigmentation has been kicked up a notch this time round. I find myself often going back repeatedly to build the colours on my eyes with my older palettes, but this wasn’t the case here and I especially for the darker shades I had to make sure to use a lighter hand to avoid picking up too much product.

That said, the shadows blend out like a dream so even if you do end up with a bit more product than expected it’s very easy to blend it down. That’s the thing I love about these eyeshadows is that unlike some of the more modern brands, this palette is very forgiving to beginners. Pigmented enough to give your eyes a good shade, but not so much that it can become very difficult to manage.

I also found the shade range to be perfect for either a lighter day look where I’d only use a light wash of colour over the lids, or using the deeper shades on my outer colour to give me a more night time look. I also found myself using the darkest shade quite often as a liner to give my eye look a softer look without being too light.

And in terms of wear, without using any particular eye primer (I tend to just use the last bits of foundation on my brush now as a primer), lasted me all day! I took this particular palette on a week long trip to New Zealand and was able to use it everyday for a range of slightly different looks. At the end of the day you are working with 5 shades so you’re looks will be similar but there is enough to give some variation.

Now the part I have a slight gripe with, and that’s the packaging. It has certainly changed over the years, it’s a little slimmer now and has a little Dior logo as a clip to lock the palette close. It visually looks great, but can be a little challenging to open quickly when in a rush, unlike the older palettes that used a magnetic closure so it was easy to use. The magnetic closure to me was much better, felt more seamless and easy to use. Could also just be my personal opinion.

All in all, if budget allows I couldn’t recommend this palette more. And it’s something I would personally recommend to people like my mother who enjoys wearing makeup but isn’t as obsessive as I am and wants something easy to use. The palette comes in about 10 other shades, though I find Dior adding to this every year so be sure to check out their website to see if there is a colour group that appeals to you!

Keep Up with Mia
