Tell Me Your Fable

April 18th, 2012 § 4 comments § permalink

Thought it was high time I uploaded another set of photos from my iphone from what I’ve been up to for the last couple of months :) I’m thinking it might be fun to feature some of my photos from my instagram too to give them a bit more context, but we shall see :)

Tell Me Your Fable

So back on my previous assignment I had this thing where I’d send one of the developers on my project a photo of the menu from downstairs so he could decide whether or not he wanted to come down to eat, I know right? How nice am I? :P (ignore the fact that I go downstairs everyday anyways to eat regardless) hehe, but as a result I literally have 10-20 of these types of photos on my iphone!

Tell Me Your Fable

MBBE meets of course always mean food food and more food! :9

Tell Me Your Fable

Moooar fooood!

Tell Me Your Fable

I was able to work in the CBD for a bit before I was deployed to Sydney, I managed to try out a cupcake from one of the new cupcake stores. Unfortunately I’ve forgotten the name, but I would not recommend them at all >_< The icing is mostly just butter :/

Tell Me Your Fable

*drools* Sorry so many food pics :x

Tell Me Your Fable

After shooting the Art of Easter video I decided to treat myself to a meal at the Nautical, which was delicious :9

Tell Me Your Fable

My little chicklet actors who were featured on my Art of Easter video :D

Tell Me Your Fable

I know this sounds a bit dramatic, but my last meal with two of my closest friends before I was deployed to Sydney :( I miss our regular dinners so much <3

Tell Me Your Fable

My first meal in Sydney hehe, healthy much?

NARS Spring 2012 Powder Blush – Gaiety Review, Swatches and Photos

NARS Spring 2012 Blush - Gaiety

Blushes are such a mood dependent product for me, I only ever wear them when I’m wearing a BB cream or foundation and the shade I wear really depends how I feel on the day. I think NARS’ Gaiety is likely to be something I’d wear to work if sheered out because of it’s lovely matte finish. Gaiety is one of the products from NARS’ Spring 2012 collection.

NARS Spring 2012 Blush - Gaiety

I think the bubblegum pink shade (surprisingly) works wonderfully for people with generally lighter skin tones or people with very dark skin tones, sheered out for light skin, but because it’s so pigmented you can pile it a bit more for darker skin tones. The pigmentation on this blush is pretty amazing as you can see below, so you need to be careful and take only the smallest amount and blend blend blend. Build the colour rather than trying to get it right on the first go.

NARS Spring 2012 Blush - Gaiety

This product has a matte finish, there is absolutely no shimmer or sparkles, which once again makes this perfect for any conservative looks you may be trying to re-create. All in all I really do love this blush and can see it being a much loved item in my collection :)

NARS Spring 2012 Blush - Gaiety

You can purchase this blush for $49AU or $28US.

Zoya Feel Winter 2011 Collection Review, Swatches and Photos

April 16th, 2012 § 4 comments § permalink

Zoya Feel 2012

This collection from Zoya was released for Winter 2011, which for Australia is quite appropriate as we’ll be moving into Winter in a few more months. A general theme throughout this collection were taking colours and combining them with gray to turn them into more wearable colours, which I really loved! I work in a more conservative environment so I love that I can get away with shades like these.

All swatches are two coats with no top coat.

Avery

Zoya Feel 2012

A blonde beige crème, a cool neutral shade perfect for most skin tones. Dior’s 220 is very similar only with more shimmer.

Carey

Zoya Feel 2012

A periwinkle gray crème, Essie Cocktail Bling is just a tiny bit darker and Zoya’s Clove is a lighter version.

Kendal

Zoya Feel 2012

A lavender beige crème, I was surprised that I wasn’t able to find any dupes in my own collection despite it not appearing to be the more unique of shades. I think this shade is much more suitable for medium to lighter skin tones, not sure how it would be for very dark skin tones.

Kennedy

Zoya Feel 2012

A lovely pale french beige crème, being a sucker for nudes I can see this being great for the work environment. Essie’s Demure Vixen is a similar dupe with shimmer.

Kristen

Zoya Feel 2012

A gull gray polish with a mild bluish hue, like a dusty blue. Eyeko’s Rain polish is similar (through now discounted) and Essie’s Sag Harbour has more green.

Megan

Zoya Feel 2012

A taupe gray crème, this is a pretty unique shade and I couldn’t find anything similar.

Book of Fables: Chapter 94 – Broken Doll

Book of Fables - Broken Doll

Broken Doll, I shot this look with Surfaced Studio and my good friend Neil Creek :) If you like you can check out the rest of the photos here, Neil is an amazing photographer as you well know! You’ll notice how many of the photos look like they were shot at night, but check out the behind the scene photos at the end of this post and you can clearly see it wasn’t night time at all! :D

I was shooting for a really abandoned sad look. Like I was someone’s doll that they just tossed aside because I’m broken and forgotten. Not surprisingly the toughest part of this look was getting the costume ready in time, I had about one full day on a weekend to sew the dress, hence why it’s not exactly the most fitted perfect dress. But when you’re low on time, you take what you can get! :) At least it was very soft and comfy :D I’d love to do a re-take of this one day and make it even more elaborate.

I really enjoy the posing for this! I literally just had to lay there and be as still as possible, next time I think I need to also try and hold my breath since every time I watch this video fast I can see my chest going up and down but everything else is still hehe. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks again to Neil and Surfaced Studio for all their help :D

Jane Iredale Feeling Alive Collection Spring 2012 Review, Swatches and Photos

April 12th, 2012 § 7 comments § permalink

Jane Iredale Feeling Alive Set

This month Jane Iredale released their Spring 2012 set which features an array of pinks, pastels and bronzy shades. The collection includes a rose bronzer, two lip sticks, two eye glosses and a lip liner. Special thanks to Jane Iredale for providing the collection below! I wanted to take the opportunity to review and provide swatches for you.

Jane Iredale Feeling Alive Set

Rose Dawn Bronzer

Jane Iredale Feeling Alive Set

When mixed together this bronzer gives a pinky based bronzed look, you can see what it looks like when all four corners are mixed together (last swatch below on the right hand side). Personally however I was more keen to try and use them individually, because I feel like it contains everything you need for contouring, highlighter, blush and bronzer! It’s unfortunate each little “pan” is too small though, only works if you have a smaller brush.

Jane Iredale Feeling Alive Set

Lip Plumper Just Kissed – L.A & RIO and Lip Definer – Pink

Jane Iredale Feeling Alive Set

These two lipsticks are pretty subjective purely thanks to their lip plumping properties. If you’re someone who wants that little extra boost, give these a shot! When I put these on I could feel my lips start to tingle after a few minutes, which I personally am not a fan of. However I don’t feel I suffer from small lips so I’d only recommend them to individuals who are looking for fuller lips as I noticed my lips swell just a hint.

The lip pencils are smooth and creamy and glided on without too much hassle, the colour is gorgeous but easily dupable.

Eye Gloss – Pink Silk & Aqua Silk

Jane Iredale Feeling Alive Set

I feel like these eye glosses are the highlight of this collection because they are so unusual and unique! Basically the name is pretty spot on, these are not cream eye shadows, they are literally eye glosses. In the swatches below they appear relatively pigmented because I piled it on. However when I actually applied this product to my eye lids they ended up needing to be completely sheered out else the finish would be blotchy. The formula is surprisingly watery too.

As you can see below, if you sheer out the product, it gives a beautiful hint of colour to your eye lids, great for on the go or if you want something very subtle. You do need to give it a bit of time to dry as they can leave your lids feeling a bit sticky. If you like you can also treat these as a primer and top them off with a powder eye shadow to avoid the stickiness.

Jane Iredale Feeling Alive Set

If you’re interested, the entire collection retails for $144AU from various salons, or if you prefer you can purchase the product individually in May 2012 :)

Glossy Box March 2012 Review and Photos

April 11th, 2012 § 0 comments § permalink

Glossy Box - March 2012

Originally when I first heard of these mini beauty boxes I wasn’t too keen on the idea. I’ve always been more of a “full sized” product girl, less about the samples. But then… Sydney happened! And suddenly I need all the samples I could get~ That’s when I was finally glad for companies such as Glossy Box :) Many thanks to Glossy Box for gifting me with this box :D

Glossy Box - March 2012

Via a subscription, Glossy Box delivers around 4-6 samples each month for you to try, perfect for me now that I can only manage to carry sample sizes with me on my weekly commute.

Some thoughts regrading the products I received this month:

Panda Pen – Pleasant surprise! I didn’t expect to like this because it’s a bit on the chunkier side, but works a treat when in a rush. I’d umm on the side of caution after a few uses because I can’t think of a way to properly clean it?

KMS FREE SHAPE hot flex spray – I already have the full sized version of this and -love- it, so I’m extremely happy to have a travel version to take with me!

Proactiv Cleansing Bar – I passed this on to my brother since I don’t suffer from regular acne, but I like that there is something for everyone :)

Absolutely Gorgeous Macadamia Face Cream – I actually use this for my hands, because the smell is a bit strong for my face :) Makes me feel like I’m coming out of a spa.

Avene Gentle Toner – Another perfect travel companion for me!

If you’re interested, Glossy Boxes go for $14.95AU a month including delivery :) Definitely visit their website for more information on logistics etc :) Very happy to have this now that I’m travelling so much!

Illamasqua Human Fundamentalism Collection Launch

April 10th, 2012 § 8 comments § permalink

Illamasqua Human Fundamentalism Collection

Illamasqua recently released their Human Fundamentalism collection which consists of an array of vibrant shocking colours, typical of most Illamasqua collections. However, this time I’ve noted a twist. For this collection they’ve actually included a neutral palette, which I unfortunately do not have here for you to swatch, but if you’re interested you have check it out here. I have to admit entertaining the idea of purchasing it myself, but then I see all the neutral palettes I already own and can hear mini-me screaming and threatening to jump off a building…

One of the benefits of being in Sydney during the work week is that I can finally get a glimpse into what Sydney blogging events are like, and what a difference there is! I really had to admit that being in Melbourne we are missing out on some really lovely events, to no fault of any company, it’s just down to logistics.

One of the highlights was definitely meeting the Sydney bloggers and meeting some very familiar faces :) Thank goodness as I had my own reservations about going and knowing no one at first! :D But I’m so glad I went and even met some new faces!

Illamasqua Human Fundamentalism Collection

Illamasqua were kind enough to gift us with a selection of products from the new launch which I’ll swatch below :) The Fundamental palette is really a gorgeous, true to the brand type of palette! It contains a Silver Liquid Metal, Mint Green Cream Pigment and Yellow & Purple Powder Eyeshadow.

Illamasqua Human Fundamentalism Collection

You can see with the powder eye shadows I’ve included swatches with the Sealing Gel is used which creates much stronger pigmentation, unfortunately when swatched with the finger it gives of a bit of a chalky consistency, when used with a brush, especially an eyeliner brush the result is much better. The palette is currently going for $78AU and the Sealing Gel set (you get two) for $26AU.

Illamasqua Human Fundamentalism Collection

I’ll review the nail polish and skin base foundation at a later date, but for now if you’re interested Illamasaqua is currently giving 20% off their entire range if you fill in a VIP card at any of their counters most of the month of April, so hop over if you’re keen :)
